MAN DIES IN ICE CUSTODY ON LONG ISLAND

At 6:30 a.m. on September 18, 2025, a 42-year-old man who had been arrested by U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) was found dead in a cell at the Nassau County Correctional Center, located at 100 Carmen Avenue East Meadow, NY. County officials confirmed this information with Newsday but has not provided further details regarding the death other than to say that it is under investigation.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman partnered with ICE in February 2025, allocating 50 jail cells for ICE to hold people arrested across the region as part of Trump’s mass-deportation efforts. The man who died (not identified yet) was one of over 1,400 people who have been held in the Nassau County Correctional Center on behalf of ICE since the partnership began according to reporting from Newsday. The federal government is reimbursing Nassau County $195 per ICE detainee, per night, as per State Senator Blakeman.

The tremendous suffering resulting from Trump’s horrific mass-deportations is reason enough to demand it be stopped but those who are still unsure should consider the financial costs. ICE is paying Nassau County $10,000 every single day to hold noncriminal immigrants in jail for no reason.

Nassau County Legislator, Seth Koslow, who is running against Blakeman for county executive in November, said Friday he is calling for a legislative hearing on the death. Hopefully we will get some answers as to what happened here.

Recently another Long Island man in Huntington Station was hospitalized after being injured by ICE at a 7 Eleven.  ICE seems to be ramping up operations in NY and getting more aggressive and violent.
