DHS Press Release Boasts they Removed More than Half a Million People from the US in 2025

On October 27, 2025, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced “record-breaking statistics with more than 527,000 illegal aliens removed under the leadership of President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.”

The post ends with the following paragraph:

“lllegal aliens can take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $1,000 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right, legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.”

DHS continues making videos and online posts with claims that people who leave on their own will have the ability to reenter legally while those who are arrested and deported will never be allowed to return. This is not true. In many cases, such as those where the person had previously had contact with immigration officials, the outcome of them leaving on their own will be exactly the same as if they arrested and removed by DHS.

You should not assume what they say is true and should make sure you check with an immigration attorney before making any sort of decision like that.

DHS is using so much hyperbole, politically charged language, and outright misinformation that it is basically operating as a propaganda department. They even have multiple new social media accounts like this new Instagram account with the username “ICE Deports” where they post videos every day bragging about how ICE agents are willing to arrest pregnant women, won’t hesitate to hit a blind man, and don’t care if there are kids in the car when they smash the windows for no apparent reason. I was shocked when I learned the account was run by the government. It is really wild to see the US Government posting this kind of North Korea-style propaganda. It’s even more shocking to see that the majority of the comments are people cheering them on or thanking the ICE agents. It’s like waking up in an alternate dimension.

In that post Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin claims that “this is just the beginning. President Trump and Secretary Noem have jumpstarted an agency that was hamstrung and barred from doing its job for the last four years. In the face of a historic number of injunctions from activist judges and threats to law enforcement, DHS, ICE and CBP, have not just closed the border, but made historic strides to carry out President Trump’s promise of arresting and deporting illegal aliens who have invaded our country. Illegal aliens are hearing our message to leave now or face the consequence: Migrants are now turning back before they even reach our borders. Migration through Panama’s Darien Gap is down 99.99%.”

In an interview on 60 Minutes on November 2, 2025, President Trump said that he thought ICE hasn’t gone far enough and that he wishes they could do even more but the Judge’s are holding him back. These are pretty crazy times so be safe out there.

DHS Conducts Second Charter Removal Flight to China Since 2018

Several media outlets have been reporting the October 15, 2024 charter flight to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) as being the first large charter flight since 2018 but the official statement from the US Department of Homeland Security states that this was the second flight to the PRC this year and there was another flight in June 2024, which was the first since 2018.

DHS Conducts Second Charter Removal Flight to China Since 2018

On October 15, 2024, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) conducted its second charter removal flight to the People’s Republic of China (PRC). This was the second large charter removal flight to the PRC since 2018.

According to Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, this week’s flight demonstrates “the Department’s continued commitment to pursuing sustained cooperation with the PRC and other international partners to reduce and deter irregular migration.” He further stated, “Intending migrants should not believe the lies of smugglers – Chinese nationals without a legal basis to remain in the United States are subject to swift removal.”

Criticisms of the Biden Administration’s Immigration Enforcement

Many have been critical of the Biden administration and by extension Vice President Harris for being weak on border security and not enforcing US immigration laws. The media has been running with the narrative that the Biden administration has been allowing millions of immigrants to enter the US illegally and remain in the country.

“The Department of Homeland Security will continue to strengthen consequences for individuals unlawfully entering our country and enforce our nation’s laws.” Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas

More Deportations in 2024 Than Any Year Since 2010

Looking at encounters at the border in particular, where Biden has received the most criticism especially from Trump and the neo-conservative media, the numbers are clear. For Trump in 2017-526k, 2018-638k, 2019-1.1M, 2020-646k. For Biden 2021-1.9M, 2022-2.7M, 2023-3.2M, 2024 (as of June) 2.2M.

DHS highlighted this in their press release about the more than 100 Chinese nationals that were returned to the PRC. The press release on the DHS website reads, “Over the last year, DHS has removed individuals to a range of countries around the world, including Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Egypt, Mauritania, Senegal, Uzbekistan, India, and the PRC. As a result of these efforts, DHS removed or returned more individuals in FY2024 than any year since FY2010. Efforts to expand removal flights continue.”

RECORD NUMBER OF DEPORTATIONS IN 2024

U.S. immigration judges issued a staggering 136,623 deportation orders during the initial six months of Fiscal Year 2024, according to an analysis by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), a nonpartisan, nonprofit data research center affiliated with the Newhouse School of Public Communications and the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University.

This is a significant surge in removal orders compared to the previous peak in removals observed in FY 2019 under the Donald Trump administration and the peak in FY2011 – FY2012 under the Obama administration. The current pace of removal orders have soared by 50 percent. This surge coincides with the expansion of immigration judges during the current administration.

New York City emerged as the epicenter of deportations, with just under 11,000 removal orders issued to immigrants residing there. Following closely behind was Harris County, TN, which witnessed more than 8,000 removal orders, and Los Angeles County, CA, with nearly 6,000 removal orders. Despite the prominence of those three top regions, Dallas County, TA, and Miami-Dade County, FL, also witnessed substantial deportation figures. The disparity becomes evident when looking at Miami-Dade County, which has only one-fourth of the removal orders of New York City and less than half of Los Angeles.

Analysts also found that as immigration judges accelerate the issuance of removal orders, fewer immigrants ordered for removal manage to secure legal representation to advocate their cases. ATRAC examination of year-by-year trends over the past decade reveals a nuanced trajectory according to an article in the Amsterdam News.

Between 2016 and 2019, the total number of removal decisions saw a modest increase, but there were notable improvements in representation rates. However, the onset of partial government COVID-19 shutdowns precipitated a sharp decline in decisions, coinciding with a surprising uptick in the likelihood of finding legal representation. This anomaly probably stemmed from the decreased demand for immigration attorneys due to the reduced number of court hearings, subsequently alleviating supply constraints, TRAC found.

Since Fiscal Year (FY) 2021, the rate of legal representation for immigrants facing removal proceedings has sharply declined. Last year, representation rates dropped to just 20 percent. In FY 2024, this decline continued, with only 15 percent of immigrants ordered for removal able to secure legal representation. Interestingly, this contrasts significantly with the current representation rate of 30 percent for all immigrants in the court’s backlog.

The implications are clear: Immigrants without legal representation face significantly higher odds of being ordered for removal. This underscores the urgency of addressing the challenges encountered by immigrants navigating the legal intricacies of deportation proceedings in the United States.
